about

Talkshow Boy (Adrian Trajstman, b.1985, Aquarius) pushes his romantic, aesthetic and political agendas to the sounds of cute majorchordal breakbeats, tiny melodic cut-ups and anemic blastbeats. Think of the songs of pagans filtered through mid-90s Euro dancepop - asinine handclap bullshit paired with obligatory fandom-centric shoutouts (mainly Twin Peaks and Neighbours).

On his third viciously human album, Testosterone!, Trajstman plays the role of Tomyum Texmex, a young upstart determined to own his zone and “keep it real’n’shit” in a world saturated with wack mash-ups, ‘boys clubs’ and P2P2P2P2P. Hard pop collages collide with ringtone remixes as Texmex spits directives over twenty-first century tone cycles. Testosterone! is an album about positive action and seizing slogans – it is an album that celebrates “just doing it” and acknowledges the gorgeous global network of young punks into subcultural subversion that help keep things DTE.

Original liner notes: "THE STORY SO FAR... After the great tech fall-out of 2005, pop had overheated past boiling point. Plundering 'retro' samples was old hat, mashing tracks was deemed wack and electro blo-wave gave way to po-faced neo-no-wave. SFW. Y'all needed a shake-up. Talkshow Boy (AKA Tomyum Texmex) began his own personal shake-up back in 1985 when he popped out of the womb - he'll quit being self-righteous at the gate of his tomb. Testosterone and Estrogen were harnessed within his body as driving forces to realising his vision - 60 years (and counting) of pop reclaimed and redefined to articulate and underscore one life. Tomyum Texmex and his Ringtone Remix proved to be popular with The Youth Sector - these young punks understood more about cultural subversion than your average bunch of deathcult disciples after their next set of dirty teenage kicks. The Youth Sector (shining stars) fully understood that they too could "just do it" and in turn "just did it" - hundreds more Talkshow Boys and Gameshow Girls were thus born. It was nothing new - Tomyum Texmex was just one of thousands of upstarts owning their zone. Even so, there's only one Talkshow Boy - two words, one vision: "keep it real'n'shit". Keep one eye on sharp kin the globe over and the other eye glued to the media - take absolutely every slogan and every pitch they carelessly throw at your demographic and use them, child, use them. Don't eat them."
